· Why did you decide to join Curves, what were/ are your goals?
I had been ± 20Kg overweight since the birth of my son. He’s now 10!! So I had no more excuses. I was tired of the traditional gym format because you have to alternate cardio and strength training days and it’s always next to impossible to get a space in any class. Furthermore, the circuit in the gym was impossible if people, mostly men, were on the machines. The Curves cardio/strength training format is perfect and the queues move fast! My goal is to reach my pre-baby weight of around 65Kg. I have about 9 more Kg’s to go.
· How has Curves helped you so far?
The fast paced circuit really gets the body working and the resistance gets the muscles toned! I have lost a lot of body fat and gained hard muscle in its place. Curves is fantastic because I don’t have to think and devise a workout- it’s all there. The music keeps me motivated as I love to dance (I used to teach jazz, modern and funky aerobic classes!) I have lost lots of inches and fit into some of my old clothes!
· How often do you workout?
I workout 3 times a week at curves, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and twice a week I take a martial arts for fitness, which is also a great way to tone up.
· Briefly describe how you eat?
I am on a no-starch-rich-food diet, so I’ve done away with potatoes, rice, pap, beans, pasta and bread. I eat a huge amount of leafy veggies, lettuce, spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, baby marrow and squash. Food is weighed in order for me to stick to my portion sizes. Fruits are my mainstay; they starve off hunger pangs in the mid-morning and afternoon. Breakfast consists of: fruit, yoghurt smoothie, Lunch: tuna or cheese with a large salad, Dinner: cooked vegetables and chicken stir-fry or steak fillet stir-fry.
· Additional Comments
Portion size is very important and most of all consistency. It is no use eating well for a week then reverting to old habits. Consistency with exercise is also key. Go religiously, even when you honestly don’t want to! That’s what I do and I feel virtuous afterwards (and look slimmer in my own eyes) A positive outlook is the most important- e.g. I’m not trying to lose (negative) 20Kg I write or think my goal like this: “I am (positive) 65Kg and I look great!”.
