Women are Fighting Heart Disease Heart Foundation Botswana and Barloworld Motor launched a campaign to get women to take on the fight against Heart Disease and related illness.
Over 40 fabulous ladies, dressed in RED, came to join the photoshoot, the first stage, and sign their pledge cards for GO RED ‘09. One of the Heart Foundation Botswana's key focus groups this year is Women. This is because the national statistics from work done around the country with Cardiac Clinic has found that heart disease is more prevalent than HIV/AIDS and that the highest numbers are women and children. With the women of this country being the principal breadwinners in driving our nation, it is important that they understand the main cause of their ill health is likely to be heart disease and that those little irritating symptoms like chest discomfort, headaches, fatigue or just not feeling well, are telling you something.
Being the principal caregiver, women also influence what their children's eating habits and lifestyle.
The GO RED '09 campaign is targeted at raising awareness amongst women against heart disease and related illnesses. Encouraging them to find out their health status, look after themselves better by making small lifestyle changes, leaving them feeling healthier, happier and stronger.
GO RED '09 is comprised of a series of events across Botswana which we will keep you informed on, including schools, corporates and public events. Please keep an eye on the Heart Foundation Website for information and updates. www.hfb.org.bw, see the photogallery on the same website under "Media" , or email us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
